Importance of Relevant Links
Links on relevant sites are more powerful than non-relevant links sitesand should be the primary focus of your link building/buying efforts.

What does relevant links mean?
Over the past couple of years, search engines have started placing additional value on links coming from what they feel are “relevant” websites. Now what exactly does "relevant" mean? "Relevancy" in this case basically means when two sites are related without being in the same industry category. For example, a site about cars may be relevant to a site about stereos even though they are in different industry subsets. It may be safely assumed that visitors on car sites will be interested in user activity and traffic on stereo sites, and vice versa. Here's another example: A real estate site should try and get links from other realtors, mortgage brokers, or any type of site that would be a relevant link to a real estate site. To conclude, links on relevant sites are more powerful than non-relevant links and should be the primary focus of your link building/buying efforts.
